MP backs biodiesel tax break project

Liberal Democrat MP Andrew George is backing a campaign to keep tax breaks for business who produce biodiesel.

Producers transforming cooking oil into biodiesel currently take advantage of a 20p differential but that is due to end next April.

The St Ives MP, who leads the Lib Dem Environment Team, has been meeting the UK sustainable biodiesel alliance.


Mr George stated "a variety of small organizations in Cornwall currently generate income from utilized cooking oil".


He included: "In order to be able to get this kind of market going it does need just a little bit of lift which is available in the kind of tax inescapable."


Biodiesel is a mix of traditional diesel, rapeseed and vegetable oils.
